Print Resources for Students

The West Middle School Media Center has a 10,000+ print collection of fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, and reference materials. Students may check out material using their student ID or lunch number.

  • Book check out: 2 weeks
  • Book Club book check out: 3 weeks
  • Magazine check out: 3 days
  • Reference material check out: 1 day
  • Students are welcome to renew materials.
  • Students may not check out additional materials until all overdue materials are returned.

Electronic Resources for Students

The Media Center includes a 30 station computer lab and an additional 14 computers in the library. Students may use computers to word process, do online research, play educational games.

Print Resources for Staff

Teachers may check out books and magazines for the amount of time the resources are needed. All materials must be returned by the end of the school year. Teachers may check out small sets of books and class sets of educational magazines from the Reading Resource Room in the northwest corner of the library.

Electronic Resources for Staff

Teachers may reserve the computer labs or the netbook carts for up to one week. Additionally, teachers may check out a TV, VCR, DVD, projector screen, slide projector, Alpha Smarts, digital camera, and digital video recorder.

The West Middle School Media Program is committed to Intellectual Freedom. Our goals are to:

  • Promote an atmosphere for free inquiry supported by a full range of information types and sources.
  • Teach the process of how to access, evaluate, and use information.
  • Maintain an environment that meets the information needs of all members of the learning community, regardless of disability or other difference, through appropriate physical adaptations and instructional policies and practices.
  • Encourage students to become critical thinkers, competent problem solvers,
    and life long learners who contribute productively and ethically to society.
